Spark Camp STEAM Lab in Partnership With Voyagers' Community School
During choice periods at SPARK, the campers’ creative use of materials was genuinely inspiring. They enthusiastically engage, carefully selecting items to fashion microphones, houses, roller coasters, ice cream cones, and countless other imaginative creations.
Spark campers’ dedication is evident as they immerse themselves in each project, thoughtfully combining the rich variety of resources Voyagers’ provides to bring their ideas to life. This diversity of materials encourages endless possibilities, enabling the children to express individuality and explore new concepts. Every Spark camper is not just engaged, but also offered unique learning opportunities, ensuring their educational growth and development.
At Voyagers’ Community School, where we have taught hundreds of kids, we know they can learn best when fully engaged in collaborative problem solving. According to Karen Giuffre’, Founder and CEO of Voyagers for 20 years, “Problem solving stimulates a child’s critical thinking skills, which involve analyzing, evaluating, and synthesizing information. While problem solving, children gather information, weigh their options, consider the pros and cons, and make thoughtful decisions, often collaboratively. These are all essential life skills.”
In our STEAM Lab at Spark, the children delight in exploring an extensive array of activities, from expansive Lego construction to the design of marble runs and mazes. They can access drawing, crafting, building, and tech tools and supplies. There’s no limit to what can emerge as children find something that captivates their interest. There is a constant sense of excitement and discovery as they freely explore an abundance of new and unusual items that are not often available in one place and offered to children. Voyagers’ teachers provide direct instruction, mentorship, and encouragement, fostering a supportive environment that enhances the children’s willingness to take risks and builds their sticktoitiveness and confidence.
